I have read with interest the news about the new imigration las now in force in the UK. I have been activly involved since I met and married a Philipine woman three years ago. Our first encounter with the system was a refusal from the interviewing officer in Manila, who amonst other things refused my wife entry on the grounds she didn't know enough about famous places she might want to visiot and he was affriad that she would not leave at the end of her tour, he also sighted that my finances were inadequate as one of the bank statement showed a small amount of over drawn. We found a way round this by arranging a visit to her sister who is married in Holland. We subsequently was granted a fiance visa, limited leave to remain and now indefinite leave to remain. My wife and her son now want to become citizens, and are first eligable to aply in October after three years, but we have to review the situation weekly. I wish those who are changing the law could experience for themseves the esculating cost and continual uncertainty it brings to peoples lives. I hope that there will be transitionary stages for those that are part way through there route to citizenship under the current rules, although I read that there won't be any changes until at least 2010. So my advice is to go ahead as soon as your qualified before they impose more stages and extra cost. This country needs the hard working people who are prepared to make a life changing change to come here, I for one welcome those who try to improve thier lives by coming here. I'll gladly share the detail of our experience if others will benefit from them. Mike & Ceferina Barry
