Students are normally issued visas up to 3 years and can work up to 20 hours (longer for certain courses) a week and full time during holidays.

"For that reason we are very pleased that the Government has decided to extend the maximum length of the Tier 4 visa from the planned four years to cover the complete duration of a student’s course. This will be particularly helpful for medical students. "

Following consultation between the UK Border Agency and educational institutions, it has been agreed that students must show they have the money to support themselves for nine months - this is lower than the 12 months originally proposed."

I don't follow: Why if the student is in the UK for up to five years must they only show that they can support themselves for one year?
Its simple math, how will students support themselves for a further four years?
They cannot work as they are in the UK on student visa's, I am confused..l....

For students who want to extend their leave the new guideline that states that if you have more than one month gap in your visa before your new course commences you have to leave and renew in your home country is a nuisance and unfair considering the backlog of visa applications at the British Embassy in Manila. Is there any way around this guideline?
