NVQ Student questioned by two immigration officers on arrival
Filipino NVQ Student was questioned by two immigration officers on arrival to start course at Majestic College.
The student was asked to explain details of his course and where he was staying in the UK.
The student was able to answer the questions and was allowed entry to the UK – he is a genuine student!
Immigration officers have the power to question anyone foreign national arriving in the country and refuse entry.
In the case of someone arriving on a Tier 4 or old style student visa, the immigration officer’s job is to ensure you are a genuine student coming to the UK to study and that your college is on the tier 4 sponsors register.
If the officer is not satisfied with your answers, further investigations will be made following which you could be refused entry – even if you have a visa.
You do have the right to appeal against the decision whilst in the UK and you should seek professional advice if you go down this road.
If you need any immigration advice or help with Studying in the UK, Settlement, Citizenship, Sponsorship, extending Work Permits, Visa or an appeal against a refusal please email:

Hi Mr. Kelly,
Given that we come to the UK as an NVQ student; IF the immigration officer asks if we will work in the UK or not, what should be our answer?
If we are still to look for a place to rent upon arriving in the UK and IF immigration asks where I will be staying, what will I answer?
Thanks for your help!
You should tell the truth. We cannot puts words into your mouth!
