PRESS RELEASE

New activities qualification will bring breath of fresh air to care sector

The National Association for Providers of Activities for Older People is hosting a Gala event tonight to award the winners of its Breath of Fresh Air challenge in which hundreds of homes took part earlier this year.

Fiona Phillips, Television Presenter, will be giving out the prizes at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea attended by over 170 people, including residents and staff from the winning homes.

“The event is an opportunity to celebrate the success stories in care homes which have found a variety of creative ways of bringing fresh air, fun and new relationships with the wider community to residents”  Sylvie Silver, NAPA’s Director reports.

“We are also delighted to announce a new creative partnership between Skills for Care and NAPA to develop a new and much awaited specific activities qualification as part of the new Qualification and Credits Framework, which will be launched at this event.”

Professor Croisdale-Appleby, Chairman from Skills for Care says “This is a genuine recognition that we need a qualification that reinforces the urgent need to expand the range of activities older people can access in care homes.”
