Martin and Pops in London

Special Report by Charles Kelly
16 May 2006

L2R: Cynthia Barker, Pops Fernandez, Charles Kelly, Martin Nievera

Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez, the concert King and Queen, flew into London last week as part of their European tour. They put on a memorable “Reunited” show at the Carling Apollo Theatre in Hammersmith. The packed audience were treated to all their favourite songs plus a few new ones. Legendary musical director Louie Ocampo and his fabulous band made the night even more special.

I caught up to Martin and Pops at their Kensington hotel and filmed a couple of exclusive short clips, which you can view at the following pages: London Event   Seminars

They were relaxed and said they were enjoying their stay in London.

Martin is currently based in Las Vegas where he is appearing at a top casino. Pops is as busy as ever with shows booked well in advance. In fact she has a show in The Philippines almost as soon as she arrives back.

Despite the gruelling schedule, taking in Madrid, Geneva, Rome and Stockholm Martin and Pops looked younger than ever. This is Pop’s first trip to London and she was quick to take advantage of a little “shopping time” at Harrods and Selfridges. Pops joked that she could happily “live in Harrods”.

Martin and Pops definitely have that special “something” and manage to engage with people effortlessly. They were recognised by Filipinos everywhere they went, but were always friendly and happy to chat and pose for pictures. Martin even managed to sell a few extra tickets and a TFC (The Filipino Channel part of ABSCBN) subscription to one shopkeeper!

Last Monday, an exclusive dinner party was thrown by Charles Kelly and Cynthia Barker, authors of How 2 Come to the UK, to celebrate the event. Martin and Pops (also joined by Dulce Lucban, Louie and family, members of the band and Annabelle and John of GMEC) enjoyed a banquet of Chinese delicacies at the famous “Mandarin Kitchen” in Bayswater.  An enjoyable evening was had by all.

Good luck Martin and Pops and come back soon!

Employers - Are You Employing People Illegally?
A talk covering the forthcoming changes in UK Immigration Policy (Immigration Asylum and Nationality Act 2006) and the proposed Points Based System for Work Permits. Employers are unwittingly employing foreign staff without the correct work permits or visas. With new fines of up to £1000 being introduced, this could be an expensive mistake.
